The much anticipated continuation of Jurassic Park was released early this month (June 2015) by Universal Pictures. It is already pulling to its side a lot of fans. The movie, titled, “Jurassic World”, has successfully grossed over a billion dollars so far, 6 times higher than its budget sum of $ 150 million. It has broken many records already, including; the biggest opening weekend and the highest grossing opening worldwide. The American science fiction and adventure movie is the fourth of the Jurassic Park series. It was directed by Colin Trevorrow who also co-wrote the screen play together with Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa and Derek Connolly. The only star from the previous series who is featured in this movie is B. D. Wong. The cast include: Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan and Omar Sy.
10 years of proper planning, preparation and revision of script was needed to successfully release the movie for viewing. The famous and renowned director, Steven Spielberg, the director of the first two of the series, served as an executive producer for the third and this one.
The movie is metaphoric, depicting humanity’s worst tendencies, consumer and corporate excess, greed, and desire for bloated profit. It also depicts some of humanity’s ills. It shows the need for a conscious decision by all to stop evil. According to actor, James DuMont, one of the themes is that those who do not stop evil support and encourage it. The movie has many important and good themes which teach didactic lessons.
The setting of the movie is 22 years after Jurassic Park, on the same island of Isla Nublar. This time, on the island, a fully-functioning dinosaur park has been established and been in operation for 10 years. The park has laboratories where research into genetic modification of dinosaurs takes place.
The plot of the movie is about the chaos and destruction caused by a genetically modified dinosaur, “Indominus Rex”. The vicious dinosaur, created from the genes of predator dinosaurs and modern day animals, escapes from containment after killing two of the workers monitoring it. An Asset Containment Team is sent after the beast but is not able to contain it. Through the chaos, other dangerous dinosaurs in confinement are released. Owen (Chris Pratt), the dinosaurs’ trainer, expert and researcher uses some raptors who have escaped confinement against the Indominus. He also sets the old veteran dinosaur, “Tyrannosaurus Rex”, against the Indominus. The Indominus is overpowered with the help of the last surviving raptor and forced into a lagoon where it is attacked and drowned by Mosasaurus (aquatic carnivorous reptiles).
The movie has good graphics with nice pictures and superb screen effects. The sound quality is excellent and the thrills and suspense fascinating. I can boldly say that it is one of the best movies released so far in this year. It is a classical piece that plays upon the reality of the prehistoric dinosaur world.
